Jennie has sung in choirs since she was 11. She started singing lessons with Diana Pocock at the age of 12, and continued her lessons throughout Beverley High School and Beverley Joint Sixth Form. She passed her Grade Eight singing and Grade Eight piano exams with distinction, enabling her to have further singing lessons with Lynne Dawson, as part of the East Ridings Schools’ Music Service’s rewards scheme. At the age of 18 she won the Ursula Follett bursary by Hull Music Recital Club, allowing her to participate in two courses with the National Youth Training Choir of Great Britain. She studied Performance: Music at York St John University, where she studied singing with Yvonne Seymour and Deborah Catterall. During her time at university she formed and conducted her own choir, was Vice President of the Musical Production Society, and sang with the University Chamber Choir, Gospel Choir, Madrigal Choir and the St Margaret’s Singers. In 2009 she graduated with a 1st Class Honours degree, and she now lives and works in Beverley as a singing and piano teacher for the East Riding Schools’ Music Service. Jennie has performed as a soloist with East Riding County Choir, Hull Ladies’ Musical Union, Cantabile and most recently with Kippax Brass Band. At school she competed in Hull, Hornsea and Cottingham festivals, and after university competed in Llangollen International Music Festival. Jennie has been singing in the soprano section of Laudamus for almost three years, and with them has performed the soprano solo in ‘Fallen’ by David Lancaster and ‘Lux Aurumque’ by Eric Whitacre. In addition to singing in the choir, she also works on the administrative team.
